Dear Folks,

        We have been doing a lot of planting.  Gregg and Oliver have been planting continuous plantings of peas, radishes, onions, and red beets.  They are getting ready to plant the summer crops outside after May 15 incluing tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, squash.   Azerahael and Oliver have been laying mulch in the raspberries, blackberries and gooseberries.  Gregg is picking asparagus and rhubarb now. We are renting an additonal 10 acres this year.  This land was organically cared for for several years so it will be perfect for us.  We are planning to plant all our winter squash and pumpkins there in mid-June.

I have been making some very good dishes with rhubarb lately.  I am sure those of you from the Great Lakes regions can share many good recipes for this great tart spring Fruit?? - not sure if it is a fruit or vegetable.   But either way, it is good.  I made a strawberry rhubarb pie (made with frozen strawberries).  Oliver ate it so quickly I never got any!  Today I made a few rhubarb muffins for the guys to take to market tomorrow to eat on the way down.  

I also grilled asparagus a couple of times so far this year.  We love it grilled with garlic salt and olive oil.  I began to use a little sprig of garlic mustard with it and it is delicious!  Garlic mustard grows wild here.  I introduced it to Gregg and he really enjoys it with a sandwich ( instead of lettuce).  It adds a bit of zip to the sandwich.  If you see him of Oliver at market ask them about it!  I LOVE sauted spinach!  It is sooo goood and sooo good for you!   If I cook it a little crisp Oliver even likes it!  Try it!  It is time to try all the great fresh spring things again!

Westminster Farmer's Market  begins on May 18.

We are looking forward to the beginning of the CSA.  The CSA will begin the week of June 3.  You will get an email from us the week before explaining the process and pick up information.  We are excited about the new folks joining us this year and we are encouraged by the folks who have been with us for years.  

We just butchered the first two pigs this year.  We are getting our meat chickens next week and the turkeys should be here by the 22 of May.
