Farm News - October

Posted 10/5/2015 5:15pm by Gregg Keckler.

Dear Folks,

We are headed into the fall now.  Oliver and Juan are tearing up black plastic already.  We are harvesting apples, pumpkins, winter squash, arugala, broccoli, cauliflower and Brussels sprouts.  We are also pressing cider again this year.

I have been making al lot of sweet potato fries lately.  I love heating up the oven on fall days before we start up the furnace.  Oliver has switched his eating habits from ice cream to hot chocolate - so you know it is fall!

We are mid-way through our fall CSA session and the Extended fall short session will be starting October 26 and running through November 21.  now is the time to sign up for it.

We will also be butchering turkeys again this year.  We have had a pretty successful year with the turkey.  We have 70 out of 85.  We will be taking orders for them and taking deposits very soon.

We are always looking forward it seems.  In the winter we are looking forward to spring planting in the spring we are looking forward to summer CSA and markets, in the summer we are looking forward to fall and the slowing down of the harvest.  and the fall we looking forward to the winter when we can catch up and do major renovation projects.  I hope that you are always looking ahead too, not just to holidays, but to productive work that gives you a sense of accomplishment.  We are blessed that our work has much to show for it and we also get a great tan!

Always looking forward,

Gregg, Louise and Oliver Keckler
