Farm News - Spring

Posted 4/11/2019 9:11am by Gregg Keckler.

Spring has sprung and we are busy!

We are selling many bedding plants again this year including peppers, herbs, tomatoes, broccoli, eggplant, flowers, and lettuce.

We seeded in the green house: tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, cantaloupe, beans, cabbage, broccoli, many herbs and flowers for the field as soon as we can safely get them in the ground.

We are planting  peas, lettuce, spinach, radishes, Swiss chard, kale, broccoli, red beets, green onions in the field.  Much of it is under rowcover right now because of the chance of cold weather in the evenings.

We are excited about this year's planting and harvest.  We have made some changes in our scheduling and practices which we think will be a big improvement over past years.

We are harvesting now  lettuce, spinach, some radishes and onions from the high tunnel as well as baby chard and kale.

We are pruning all the trees and berries as well and preparing for the biggest year yet of strawberries in the spring.  We are hoping to have a pick-your-own patch here on the farm.  We will let you know when that will be.  So far everything looks good for a harvest.

We are managing the layers, hogs, and broilers.  We will be getting a new batch of broilers to raise out next week.
