News and blog
We have LOTS, LOTS, LOTS of Honeycrisp apples, Braeburen, Granny Smith, and Suncrisp!
Honeycrisp apples are a sweet, crisp apple.
Granny Smith are a tart crisp apple.
Suncrisp are a tart, crisp apple.
Braeburn are a tart, crisp apple.
All of these apples make great eating apples. They are also great for pies, crisps and baking ,as they will hold there shape very well. DO NOT USE THEM FOR SAUCE! They are too crisp for sauce.
If you want apples for sauce, please let us know. We have excellent sauce apples as well for the same great deal!
DO NOT PLACE YOUR ORDER FOR THE APPLE SPECIAL ON THE STORE - email me and I will take your order. The store can not give you the discount!
Keep these apples in mind if you are buying items for a school or organization. These are delicious and we will give you a REAL DEAL!
There are approximately 40 apples to a half bushel - if you buy more them one half bushel we will sell them to you for $10 per half bushel. Let me know via email if you want to buy some in quanity and I will order them for you.
If you buy them from the store the normal price is $15 per half bushel.

Winter Squash - either spaghetti squash or buttercup
The Asian pears were just picked so they can sit for a while to soften up.
The applesauce is made with either Smokehouse or Rambo apples - no sugar added. So you may sweeten as you like. The jars are sealed so you do not need to use them immediately. We do ask that when you are finished with the jar, please return it to us, we can sterilize them and reuse them.
Remember you can freeze apple cider for later use.
The buttercup winter squash is either a green or a bright orange squash with a hard shell. These are delicious baked with garlic and butter.
Enjoy the great fall weather. We are harvesting some very nice broccoli and cauliflower these days. We are waiting anxiously for the first hard frost. Although it will mean the end of the cherry tomatoes and eggplant it will mean that we will begin to cut the Brussel Sprouts stalks!
I will be sending a separate email about the Apple specials! YES - we are adding Granny Smith and Suncrisp and Braeburn to the specials. Be looking for the email!
Have a great week!

Dear Folks,
Unfortunately we have a scheduling problem for Saturday, October 25 at the Cedar Lane location. Gregg will not be having a market there that day. We have arranged to have the CSA shares located at Suzanne Picard's front porch which is right around the corner from the church.
Since October 25th would have been the last day of the CSA for the Fall session, there will be a pick off the table week on the Saturday before that - October 18th.
The market at Cedar Lane has not done well at all this year. We have noticed that it has been dropping over the past several years. We have tried to change the location, but we cannot find a place close that will allow us to set up. So - we will not longer be continuing this market for the coming year.
Ideally we would love to turn the CSA's into a delivery drop-off on Fridays, but we need a location to do the drop-off. If any of you either live in the area or maybe you could arrange a drop-off at your workplace (since it will be a Friday instead of Saturday) please let us know. We realize that some of you will just not be able to continue becasue of the logistics, we apologize for this and hope that since we will not have a farm stand in the area, yo will go to the market in Kentlands where our daughter, Katie Tuckey has a stand.
Let us know if you can think of any other viable ideas, we ware willing to try things.
This is the reason that I have disabled the Cedar lane location for the Extended Fall season. if anyone has a close location that would be willing to have us do a drop-off for the Extended Fall season please let us know. this will be a Wednesday delivery. We are consolicdating all the deliveries to Wednesday for the Extended Fall season, since there are not as many folks in that season.
Thanks to all of yo who have supported us - some of you go all the way back to the Woodmont triangle Farmer's market we will be sorry to lose touch.

I just enabled the turkeys on the store. You can go to the store www.orchardcountryproduce and order your turkey now. The deadline to order is November 8th. you can pay when you order or you can wait until you pick up to pay. All the information is right there except - - - please write on the notes what date you would like to pick up.
For example: you want an 11 lb turkey to be delivered to NGS Farm Stand, please let us know whether you want it on November 11, November, 18, or November 25.
or: You want an 8 lb turkey to be delivered on Wednesdays at Flats 130. Please indicate whether you want it on November 12, or November 19.
I hope that this makes sense. Let me know if you have any questions.
I have just updated the store - check it out!

These snacking peppers are delicious! You can eat them as a snack, no cutting, no cooking - GREAT! and very sweet, with not burping!
Jonagold apples are sweet and very good. Enjoy all the apples - This is their season!
Apple Cider AGAIN!!! Yes. Please remember that you can freeze cider. Just pour off a bit at the top of the container and freeze the rest. Think of how good it will be on a special evening during the winter! hot cider with cinnamon sticks!
The Delicata Winter Squash are shaped like a small football. They are great cut in half, scope out the seeds and roasted. Add you own seasons either sweet - honey and butter or savory garlic, salt and butter.
We LOVE eggplant. I like to fry it. That may not be the most popular method any more with all the health - consciousness - it is GREAT! I peel the eggplant - slice it and soak it in salt water. Then after about 20 minutes I drain it; dip in egg, coat it with flour and fry it in oil. It is wonderful! IF there are any left overs I will make lasagna and use the fried eggplant instead of the noodles. My family really enjoys it!
I will be sending out an email about the Honey crisp special again. We still have LOTS of them.
Enjoy the Fall weather. Have a great week!
