What's in the box?

Week 1
Spring, 2016

half and full shares
lettuce
rhubarb
asparagus
kale
spring onions
apples
strawberries

Personal shares
rhubarb
kale
asparagus
spring onions
strawberries

The lettuce is a whole head.  We are in mid-late season on asparagus.  Enjoy!  It will soon be gone; same for rhubarb.  Stewed rhubarb is one of my favorite dessert toppings.  It is also great with strawberries!  The kale is the first kale from the field this year.  The apples are ours which have been stored since last fall.  We have three varieties - Pink Lady, Cameo and Fuji.

We hope that you enjoy this year's CSA.  It is hard to believe that we are here already!  We are picking peas so you will be getting them in next week's shares.
The store is open - We butchered broilers last week, so we have a lot of nice chickens.

If you have any questions, please let us know.

First delivery for the Spring session is next Saturday, June 4
How it works

You can go to the Farm Stand at Bush Hill Presbyterian Church or St Luke's Episcopal Church in Alexandria.  You  must go to the location that you signed up for.  Your name will be on a list, check off your name and pick up your share.
You can transfer your fruits and vegetables into your own bags and leave the boxes or you can take the box with you.  YOU MUST BRING BACK THE BOX NEXT WEEK!

If you ordered eggs, the list will have it recorded and you can come to Gregg(at Bush Hill or Oliver at St Luke's)and they will have eggs set aside for you in a cooler.

Please remember that fresh fruits and vegetables are very perishable.  Get them into refrigeration as soon as possible.

The Store
We will have the store open very soon.  You may order things from the store if you like.  Since we have most things at the stand already, you may not need to order them.  There are a few unique items that are only on the store, so check it out.

Vacations

This year we instituted a new policy for vacations,.  If you let us know ahead of time, we  can hold your share and  you can get a double on the following
week.  You may do this for two weeks throughout the entire summer.   After the second vacation, you will have the choice to have a friend pick up for you OR donate your share to the DC Soup kitchen OR pick up at another location within the same week.

If you do not let us know and you do not show up, we will automatically donate your share.

We are looking forward to this year's CSA season and hope that you will enjoy the vegetables and fruits.  With the interesting weather patterns so far, it will be different - that is for sure!

Please let us know if you have any questions.
You will be getting an email on Monday morning letting you know what will be in your shares for week 1.

You are getting this email because you are on the list to get a CSA delivery next Wednesday, June 1 at your location.  If you were not expecting a share next Wednesday, Please let me know.

How It Works

Every week Gregg will be delivering a share for you to your location. Personal shares will be in white boxes with vegetables on it.  The half and full shares will be in tomato boxes.  Your name will be on your box.

You may take the box and bring it back to your designated drop off spot BEFORE Gregg gets there the next week or you can transfer the fruits and vegetables into your bags and leave the box at the drop off.

We Must Have our Boxes Back!  Last year I got pretty nasty about the loss of the boxes.  This year we added a $3.00 charge to all personal shares because of the loss of the personal share boxes.  Please remember to be diligent about this.

Please get you fresh fruits and vegetables into the refrigerator as soon as possible.
